After disappearance of the reactant (monitored by TLC), water (30 mL) was added to the mixture, and then extracted with ethyl acetate (15 mL) for three times. The extraction was washed with saturated NaCl solution, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4 and concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel using petroleum ether/ethyl acetate (10:1 to 3:1) as the eluent to give the desired products 5 or 7.
