Ethyl 3-iodobenzoate (939mg, 3.40mmol) was dissolved in DMF (2mL) and a solution of 3-cyanophenylboronic acid (500mg, 3.40mmol) in DMF (5mL) was added. The aqueous fraction was extracted with DCM (50mL) and the combined organic fractions were dried (MgSC^) and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was purified by column chromatography to give the title compound (767mg, 90%) as a pale yellow liquid. LCMS: ES+ 252.1 [MH]+.
