The title compound I (R = 4-iodo) was easily prepared in yields of 60-80% by iodination of 1,3,5,7-tetraphenyladamantane. I was useful in the synthesis of compounds, e.g., I (R = 4-C顚咰CMe2OH, 4-C顚咰H, 4-Ph), with extended tetrahedral symmetry.
