Hexafluorisopropanol (HFIP) was employed as an additive for the generation of 3-(chloromethylene)oxindoles I [R = n-Bu, (CH2)3CN, Ph, etc.; R1 = Me, cyclohexylmethyl, Bn, etc.; R2 = H, 5-Me, 5-F, etc.] via the chloroacylation of alkyne-tethered carbamoyl chlorides.
