4-Hydroxyphenylboronic acid (6) (2.3 g, 10 mmol) was added to a solution of 4-iodo-3-nitroanisole (7) (3.1 g, 11 mmol) in toluene-ethanol-water (30 mL, v/v/v=4/2/1), followed by Pd(PPh3)4 (350 mg, 0.3 mmol) and K2C03 (5.3 g, 50 mmol). The mixture was refluxed for 6 hours. After cooling to roomtemperature, the mixture was filtered through a celite pad. The filtrate was concentrated, diluted with DCM (100 mL), and washed with saturated brine (3 x 30 mL).
