The mixture was diluted with water (10ml) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3x 10ml). The combined organic phases were dried (Na2SO4) and concentrated in vacuo. Purification of the residue by flash chromatography (cyclohexane/methanol: 0 to 5% gradient) gave 5-{5-[2-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1 ,2,3,4-tetrahydro-5-isoquinolinyl]-1 ,3,4- thiadiazol-2-yl}-2-[(1-methylethyl)oxy]benzonitrile (36mg, 71%) as a clear oil.
