The resulting mixture was stirred overnight at rt under N2. Reaction was poured into water and extracted 3* with EtOAc. Combined extracts were washed with sat’d. NaHCO3 and brine, dried over anh.Na2SO4, filtered and evaporated. Flash chromatography gave the pure benzyl ester (2.62 g, 98%) as a colorless liquid.
