The mixture was extracted with CH2 Cl2, and the CH2 Cl2 extracts were evaporated and the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel eluding with ethyl acetate to afford 5 g of 1-ethyl-4-chloro-7-methoxy-1H-pyrazolo[3,4-b]quinoline, m.p. 114-115 C.
