Preparation 49 (4-Bromo-2-methyl-phenyl)-(2-methyl-5-nitro-phenyl)-methanone (compound 449) The reaction was run under an argon atmosphere using dry glassware. 4-Bromo-2-methyliodobenzene (2.40 mL, 16.8 mmol) was dissolved in dry THF (15 mL) and cooled to -60 C. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm up to -40 C. and the mixture was stirred at -40 C. for 4 h. Compound 401 (4.62 g, 16.8 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at -40 C. for 3 h after which it was allowed to warm to room temperature and stirred for 17 h. A saturated aqueous solution of NH4Cl (100 mL) was added and the mixture was stirred for 1 h. The phases were separated and the aqueous phase was extracted with EtOAc (2*100 mL). The combined organic phases were washed with brine, dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography using CH2Cl2/petroleum ether (40-60) 1:6, 1:4, 1:2 as the eluent to afford the title compound as yellow compound.
