The reaction was quenched with diluted HCl(1:2 of 1M HCl in H2O) and extracted with CH2Cl2. An organic layerwas subsequently washed with water and saturated NaCl solution. Thewashed organic layer was dried over Na2SO4. The solvent was removedunder reduced pressure, affording dark brown viscous liquid. The crudeproduct was partially purified by column chromatography to give ayellow to brown viscous liquid mixture. The mixture was carried on tothe next step.
