After drying the combined organics over MgSO4, the solution was concentrated and purified by silica gel chromatography (petrol ether:ethyl acetate 80:20 to ethyl acetate), giving Compound 5 as a yellow oil (1.88 g, 92%). 1H NMR (CDCl3) delta 3.78 (s, 3H), 4.25 (s, 2H, CCH?2), 7.27-7.36 (m, 2H, arom.H), 7.58-7.65 (m, 1H, arom.H).
